What they needed
The business needed a single platform that could coordinate restaurants, drivers, and customers in real time, not just take an order and hope for the best. Orders had to route to the right kitchen instantly, drivers needed live dispatch instead of a manual assignment queue, and customers expected accurate ETAs while food was actually being prepared. Payment methods varied by market, and the whole system had to hold up as order volume scaled toward 50,000+ orders a day across three continents — a load where a slow dispatch algorithm or a flaky GPS feed turns into missed deliveries and cold food, not just a bad review.
What we built
We built a cross-platform React Native app so the team could ship to iOS and Android from one codebase across every market. A Node.js backend on PostgreSQL handles order routing, restaurant menus, and driver assignment, with an intelligent dispatch system that matches drivers to orders based on location and current load rather than a simple first-come queue. Real-time GPS tracking runs through the same backend, giving customers a live map and accurate ETAs instead of a static status label. Firebase powers push notifications for order updates on all three sides — customer, driver, and restaurant — and Stripe handles payment across the multiple methods each market needed. A restaurant management dashboard gives kitchens visibility into incoming orders and prep status, all delivered within a 4-month sprint.
How we approached it
Built dispatch as its own service so driver-matching logic could be tuned independently of order intake as volume grew across three continents.
Used real-time GPS tracking shared across customer, driver, and restaurant views instead of three separate status systems, so all three sides see the same live state.
Chose Firebase for push notifications and React Native for the client so one team could maintain one codebase across iOS, Android, and every market's payment variations via Stripe.
Gave restaurants their own dashboard rather than folding order management into the driver or customer app, keeping kitchen workflows separate from dispatch logic.
