The Challenge

What they needed

The business needed a marketplace that could support a growing base of independent vendors selling high-value goods, each with its own inventory, pricing, and fulfillment rules, without the experience feeling fragmented. Luxury buyers expect one cohesive brand, not a patchwork of seller storefronts, while vendors still needed enough autonomy to manage catalogs and track their own performance. Keeping inventory accurate in real time across every vendor was critical — a buyer purchasing an item another vendor had already sold would break trust immediately. Payments compounded the difficulty: customers check out in 40+ currencies, vendors require dependable payouts, and every transaction has to satisfy international compliance and fraud controls.

Our Solution

What we built

We built the marketplace on Next.js for fast, SEO-friendly storefronts and a vendor portal in the same codebase. PostgreSQL holds the core catalog, order, and vendor data with the relational integrity a multi-vendor system needs, while Redis caches inventory counts so stock levels stay accurate under concurrent checkout traffic without hammering the database. Stripe Connect handles payment processing and vendor payouts across 40+ currencies. AI-powered search and recommendation logic surface relevant products across hundreds of vendor catalogs instead of relying on manual categorization. Vendors get a real-time analytics portal covering sales, inventory, and payout status. The whole system runs on AWS, giving the business the infrastructure to scale compute and storage independently as vendor count and order volume grow.

Key Decisions

How we approached it

01

Used Redis as a cache in front of PostgreSQL for inventory counts, so concurrent checkouts across vendors check stock without every request hitting the primary database.

02

Built vendor onboarding and catalog management as a separate portal on the same Next.js app, giving vendors direct control over listings and pricing.

03

Used Stripe Connect to handle vendor payouts across 40+ currencies rather than building custom settlement logic from scratch.

04

Deployed on AWS with PostgreSQL as the system of record and Redis in front of it, so the platform can scale reads and writes independently as vendor count grows.
